Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about how Typeladder works.
Is Typeladder free?
Yes. You can use every lesson, level and practice mode without paying or creating an account.
Do I need an account?
No. Your progress is saved in your browser on this device. Clearing your browser data or switching devices will reset it.
How is WPM calculated?
Gross WPM is the number of characters typed divided by five, per minute. Net WPM is gross WPM minus uncorrected errors per minute. We show both and use net WPM for level unlocking.
How is accuracy calculated?
Accuracy is correct keystrokes divided by total keystrokes. A mistake you fix with backspace still counts as a mistake, so accuracy reflects how cleanly you type the first time.
What do I need to pass a level?
Reach the level's net WPM and accuracy targets and finish the whole text. Failed attempts never remove progress, and you can retry as often as you like.
Why is Level 100 so hard?
Level 100 needs 90 net WPM at 98% accuracy, which is professional-typist territory. The curve rises gradually so each step is achievable. Targets may be adjusted as we learn from real performance.
Can I use it on my phone?
You can, but touch typing is a keyboard skill. Phone results are tracked separately from physical-keyboard results because the two are not comparable. For the full experience use a laptop or desktop.
Does the on-screen keyboard type for me?
No. The on-screen keyboard is visual feedback only. It never creates keystrokes for your test.
How does weak-key practice work?
We count the keys you mistype and build drills from words that contain them. It uses your real error records, not guesses.
Why is there no sound?
Sound is off by default and only plays after you turn it on. Use the Sound button in the menu, then choose a profile and volume in the Practice Studio.
Where is my data stored?
In your browser's local storage on your device. We do not receive it. See the Privacy Policy and Cookies and Storage.
How do I reset my progress?
Open Settings from the home screen and choose Reset all progress. This cannot be undone.
How do I report a bug or suggest a feature?
Use the contact page.
